Welcome, Kirk Sykes
On July 1st we will welcome Kirk Sykes as SEED MD’s new Head of School. Mr. Sykes brings over 20 years of experience in educational leadership to SEED.
Throughout his career, he has worked to balance tradition and innovation to benefit his students and their families. He has a proven record of raising student achievement by establishing professional learning communities, direct coaching of principals, developing meaningful parent and community involvement initiatives, enhancing school climate and culture, and implementing sound school budget priorities. Kirk has numerous honors and awards chief among them are being named Principal of the Year by National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Administrator of the Year by the College Bound Foundation and New Leaders Roberts Award for School Innovation. He is interested in supporting our students in a way that prepares them to be globally competitive, enables them to thrive in college and careers, but also compels them to give back.
Mr. Sykes holds a B.A. from Morgan State University, a M. Ed. from Coppin State University and is completing doctoral studies at Seton Hall University.
We are thrilled to have attracted a leader with Mr. Sykes’s commitment, collaborative abilities, integrity, and passion for educating the whole person. His dedication to students and his expertise with both school leadership and student learning are all qualities that the Board of Trustees felt were essential in our next Head of School.
